LitP Routine

litp-routinechoreographed by Hep Jen, Ken Watanabe, and Nathan Dias, April 2006

BACKGROUND:

In February 2006, we started something new at Lindy in the Park in which we dance a fun little routine in a swingout line. Our goal was to create a simple, fun routine in which everyone could join and experience the excitement of dancing in a group. Each week, we have added more steps to the routine, and we have now completed the full choreography. Woo-hoo!!!

We dance the routine every Sunday at the park at a moderate tempo to give people a chance to learn and review the sequence, and sometimes we also do the routine a second time a little later at a smokin’ fast tempo, just for the thrill of it! Everyone is welcome to join in!

Ready? Here’s the choreography:

FIRST CHORUS:
3 Swingouts (first one from closed position)
Lindy Circle

3 Side-by-Side Charlestons
Jump Turn

Boogie Back
Boogie Forward
Boogie Back
Shorty George

3 Swingouts (starting from open position)
Texas Tommy (quick stop on 7, ending with R-R hand grip)

SECOND CHORUS:
3 Hand-to-Hand Charlestons (starting with R-foot kicks and R-R hand
grip)
8-ct Kick-Around (counterclockwise) into Tandem Charleston position

3 Tandem Charlestons
Russian Kick

3 Tandem Crossover Charlestons (starting to the Right)
4-ct Push Out exit (ending with L-R hand grip)
4-ct “Crazy Jumps” (jump on 5-6-7-8)

(Repeat from the top!)

[NOTE: This routine is designed to fit music with a regular 32-bar
structure]

I just wish I hadn’t messed up the Boogie section the first time through (I’m still working on calling out the steps and dancing at the same time!). I suggest that you watch Jen (not me) during this section :-) -Ken
